My blog has been sorrily neglected this past month for a couple of reasons, one being that I was hammered with a wicked flu at the beginning of March, the second (and much more exciting) being that Fabien and I (at this point, health much improved) went on vacation to New Zealand!

You can’t become self-sufficient by simply waking up one morning and saying: “Alright, today’s the day!” …though I would say that my own moment of enlightenment happened in roughly the same way.
A lot of people wonder why we would even bother with a self-sufficient lifestyle. It’s a lot of work and you’re tied to the land, and there are many plants and animals that depend on you for survival.
